Introduction

Gyeonggi Creation Center develops and operates local collaboration projects in various formats and approaches. The Center’s projects have developed along two directions: in an artist-directed project, the artists who aim to discover, interact and interfere with local community is selected and supported for their project. Another direction of local collaboration is by GCC its own. In the GCC-directed projects, GCC uses its long experience in local exchange to discover cultural needs and interests in an artistic project. This year, in 2011, there are total of ten local collaboration projects, including two GCC-directed projects and eight resident artist projects. This is a long journey that seeks a sustainable and desirable model, through which art establishes positive interactions and a symbiosis with the demands and interests of the local community.

The local collaboration program takes place as group participation and communication process, jointly conducted by the local community members, resident artists, and relevant institutions. Especially, the program interprets the local issues in the Gyeonggi area from artistic perspective, and attempts to build up database out of detailed programs such as lectures, seminars, and workshops offered by specialists from each field.
